Yet Another of Rose's Ramblings

Bara's Ramblings

11.09.2001
Man...It's been like only two weeks since my last rambling no da! And already I need to write a new one! ::sighs:: Well...here goes. I promise not to be as long-winded as last time.

Well, I forgot to mention that when I went to Chicago, there were these nice little fliers for ACen. That's the Anime con that's up in Chicago in April. I will be going to ACen. Nothing will keep me from going there, not even my parents. I'm going with my friends from Anime Club here. It's going to be awesome. I'm cosplaying as Shuuichi Shindou from Gravitation. That means that, come April, I'm cutting my hair to shoulder length (or shorter ^_^) and dying it magenta! It's going to be great!

On top of that, in August, we're all going on a road trip to OtoCon. All the way to Maryland. One of my friends plans to go as Panda Genma from Ranma 1/2, so I might go as Ranma, either male or female. Or I might decide to go as something else. Who knows. It's in August, so I have time to think about it. But that's going to be soooo much fun! I'm glad I made such great anime friends here!

Speaking of Anime Club, I am now official webmistress of the anime club site! And boy do I have plans for it! But they're a secret. ^_^

Anime that I want to run past you that I've been watching lately: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Grave of the Fireflies, Martian Successor Nadesico, Crest of the Stars, and A Candidate for Goddess (which we are watching in anime club).

Neon Genesis Evangelion seems like a really cool series, though I've only gotten ahold of the first volume. I like the Evas, and what I've seen of the plot is pretty darned good! Risa is letting me borrow the next few volumes soon, so there will be more on that soon. Who knows, I might even decide to write a fanfic. lol!

I'm now on the third "Legend of Kyoto" volume of Rurouni Kenshin. The one where he *SPOILER ALERT* broke his sakabato (did I spell that right?). *END SPOILER ALERT* Anyhoo...I love that series. Kenshin is so cool. And Misao, while she's annoyingly hyper, is pretty awesome! I've got some decent fic ideas from it. I might try them out, but only after I get the next chapter of Memory Prime out.

Grave of the Fireflies is a REALLY sad movie. I cried soooo hard. It's about a 14-year-old boy whose town is firebombed in WWII, and how it affects him and his 4-year-old sister. It's really sad, and really good. You have to understand how the Japanese think when you watch it, because otherwise you are left saying "Well, he should have..." It was written by a guy who survived Hiroshima.

Martian Successor Nadesico is really cool! Gai is just soooo funny (stupid, weird, loud, etc...), and it's really funny how poor Akito-kun got caught up in it. Totally accidental. Like Evangelion, I've only seen the first volume, but I'm stuck on it. Rinne is supposed to lend me the next few soon...

Crest of the Stars is an anime that we watched part of in anime club. They have another volume at the anime rental place here, but I keep forgetting to rent it...And I'm watching Kenshin right now anyways. It takes place in space and is about a kid whose dad basically gave him to an enemy to ensure that their planet is run by its own government. Of course, the "enemy" is really nice and just misunderstood, but that doesn't matter to most people, who hate them. It's a really cool series, and I hope to get back to it soon. From what I heard, there was an entire LANGUAGE created by the series, and the series has tons of novels and graphic novels and manga behind it, so you'll never find fanfiction for it (which kinda sucks in some cases...).

Okay, I mentioned A Candidate for Goddess before, but I'd only seen one episode. It's thirteen episodes long. It also takes place in space. It's about how humanity colonized many of the planets in space, but some aliens destroyed all but one, Zion. Humanity's goal now is to protect Zion from the VICTIMS that the aliens send with the mechs known as Goddesses. Basically, the series is about the candidates to pilot the goddesses. It's really cool, and the characters are really cool. The beginning music kinda sucks though. It reminds me of a Miss America pageant or the Oscars. Really weird. There was a short blurb about it in Animerica's November 2001 issue.

On to manga I'm reading. Here's what I'm reading: Gundam Wing, Inu-Yasha, Magic Knights Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura, Ceres: Celestial Legend, and Ranma. Gundam Wing graphic novels are WAY different from the actual series. The Go For It, Domon W is worth buying them though. I love them. I have 1-3, Ground Zero, and the After Colony Gundam W Data Collection (which is in Japanese). They're fun to read no da! I also get the monthly manga.

Inu-Yasha is awesome! I have graphic novel #7, and I'm getting the monthly issues too. Inu-Yasha rules! Wai! The artwork is just really good, and the plot is awesome!

I have graphic novels 1-5 of Magic Knights Rayearth. The first three are the first season, and the next ones are part of the second season. It's an awesome series, and it's great to see how Umi, Fuu, and Hikari grow up during the books. And doesn't Ferio rock?

I'm tired, so the other two will wait for my next rambling. Ja!
